Sustainability and Reuse Effort: reconstruction of the Armenian Public Television campus buildings
Vahan Misakyan
Recently, during the demolition and reconstruction of a large multi-floor building at the Armenian Public Television campus, our company undertook a major effort of reuse and refurbishment of building materials, becoming one of the first, if not the first construction company in Armenia to implement such a practice. While maximizing reuse and refurbishment and minimize the construction waste, the effort was aimed at developing techniques and processes for more sustainable practice in general.
Management of construction waste by minimizing its production during demolition or construction processes is a conscious effort our company is undertaking in all of its projects. The implementation of specific disassembly technics during the demolition processes allows the production of reusable buildings elements and materials. Additionally, the materials and reusable building elements produced during the reconstruction of the emergency building at the Armenian Public Television campus were stored on a separate site owned by our company, located not far from the site of demolition. The proximity to the site of demolition allows minimizing waste produced during the transportation. The materials and elements that you see below are stored here for the future reuse in a construction project at this site.
